History

Justin and Ethan Miller founded the company in 2006. They are the sons of antiques dealer Jim Miller, who ran J.C. Miller Antiques from the 1970s and handled original, unrestored antiques, nostalgia and classic cars. Jim Miller died in 2010, and his sons carried the family business forward as an auction house for important collections.

It was estimated at $30,000 to $35,000 at the May 2022 Canadiana and Decorative Arts sale and sold for a $350,000 hammer price, or $413,000 with buyer's premium. That was ten times its high estimate, and well above the previous Lewis record of $67,250. The firm has also sold a rare 1940s Maud Lewis for CA$108,900. The firm's own history also points to its $250,000 sale of Paul Newman's Woody Wagon, which was featured on the CBC programme Four Rooms. Other reported results include a 1972 Rolex Reference 1680 red Submariner Date at $24,780, and two Supertest porcelain service station signs that together made $41,300.

Selling

Miller & Miller offers appraisals and handles catalogue descriptions, in-house packing and shipping, and marketing for consignors. The firm says it markets to more than 15,000 active users and reports an average sell-through rate of 98%. Commission rates are not published and are arranged with the specialists.

Buying and bidding

Auctions run through the year, usually several a month in different categories. They are held either as live webcast sales or as online-only timed sales, and the firm states that all current auctions are online-only, with in-person bidding not currently offered. The autumn 2026 calendar, for example, includes pre-1980 sports cards, post-war Canadian folk art, Canadiana, decoys, pottery and glass, a petroliana and advertising collection, and a November luxury watches sale.
