History

Rogers Jones & Co was founded in 1992 by Margaret and David Rogers Jones in Colwyn Bay, who left established careers to start the business. The firm honours David Rogers Jones (1942 to 2022), whose guiding philosophy it quotes as work thoroughly and with ambition. Ben Rogers Jones joined the business in 2001. A Cardiff branch opened in 2013. In 2024 the firm acquired Byrnes Auctioneers of Chester, and in 2025 it opened its office at Gregynog Hall.

Buying and bidding

General sales are held on the first two Tuesdays of each month, and specialist auctions such as the Welsh Sale and fine art sales take place through the year. Buyers can bid from anywhere with an internet connection through the Rogers Jones website, which is free of charge. The firm warns bidders not to use their the-saleroom login when registering on its own site, as that platform charges its own fee.

The buyer's premium varies by type of auction. The rate for each sale is shown in its terms and when registering to bid. For example, the Colwyn Bay monthly sale in May 2026 carried a premium of 26.4% including VAT, which is 22% plus VAT. The firm's estimates do not include the premium or VAT.

Payment is due within three days of the sale by bank transfer, and debit cards are accepted in the saleroom. Lots can be moved free of charge to the nearest Rogers Jones office for collection, usually within a few weeks. This service does not normally cover furniture.

The headquarters is at 33 Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay. Other premises are on the Llandough Trading Estate in Cardiff, Marley Way in Saltney near Chester, and Picton Terrace in Carmarthen, with the Gregynog Hall office at Tregynon in Powys.
