Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers
Toronto jewellery auction house founded in 1986, holding twice-yearly sales of signed jewels, diamonds, gemstones and watches.
About Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers
Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers is a Toronto auction house that specializes in quality jewels, diamonds and coloured gemstones. It also sells wristwatches by makers such as Rolex, Cartier, Patek Philippe and Omega. Its main sales present Canadian-owned collections to buyers across North America, Europe and Asia.
The house holds valuation days in cities across Canada and offers estate appraisals as well as auction estimates. All bidding is in Canadian dollars. Estimates are also shown in other currencies to help international buyers.
History
President Ron Dupuis has worked in the international auction world since 1980. He first led the jewellery department at Sotheby's Canada. In 1986 he founded his own Canadian auction house, devoted to period pieces, work by master jewellers such as Tiffany & Co. and Cartier, and high-quality gemstones.
The business still operates from Toronto's Bay Street. Its specialists travel for consignment appointments, and the 2026 calendar lists valuation days in Victoria, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa.
What Dupuis sells
Dupuis focuses entirely on jewellery and watches. Its sales usually include:
- Signed jewels by houses such as Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Bulgari and Van Cleef & Arpels
- Period jewellery, including antique, Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces
- Diamonds and coloured gemstones
- Wristwatches from leading Swiss makers
Past results on its website include a Van Cleef & Arpels sapphire and diamond necklace sold for $340,000 and a coloured diamond ring sold for $170,000. Sales often include some lots offered with no reserve.
Selling at Dupuis
Consignors book a consultation with a specialist, in Toronto, at a valuation event, or at home, an office or a bank for security. The specialist assesses gem quality, materials, craftsmanship, period and maker. They then suggest a pre-auction estimate and agree a minimum price, which usually includes a reserve.
- Consignors receive an itemized property receipt and agreement, and are told their lot numbers before the sale
- After the auction, sellers get a list of results that shows any unsold items
- Net proceeds and a statement are sent 35 days after the auction
Commission rates are not published and are set out in the consignment agreement.
Buying and bidding
Dupuis presents its major sales twice a year. Examples are the June 2026 Important Jewels auction and the Important Jewels auction set for November 11 to 18, 2026. These are timed online auctions that run over several days. A bid in the last 10 minutes before a lot's planned close extends it by another 10 minutes. Bidders must pre-register, and new bidders may be asked for government-issued photo ID.
- Buyer's premium: 25% on every lot, added to the bid price
- Taxes: HST on the total purchase price, except for purchases shipped outside Canada
- Payment: due within five business days by e-transfer, certified cheque, bank draft or wire; credit cards are accepted in person up to $50,000
The house offers a limited authenticity warranty. A buyer who reports a misrepresented lot in writing within 21 days, and returns it in its original condition, may have the sale cancelled and be refunded. Watches are sold as is.
Location and viewing
Dupuis is at 1200 Bay Street, Suite 900, Toronto. It holds a preview before each auction, with proper lighting and staff to help, and it provides condition reports on request. Purchases can be collected from the Bay Street office between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the five business days after the sale.
