Piguet Hôtel des Ventes: Geneva's family-run auction house
Founded in 1978 as the Hôtel des Ventes de Genève, the house grew into a fixture of the Swiss and international market after Bernard Piguet took it over in 2006. It has traded as Piguet Hôtel des Ventes since 2016, with salerooms in Geneva and an office in Lausanne.
What it sells
Across four or five sales a year, Piguet offers around 15,000 works of art and objects, valued from CHF 300 to over CHF 1 million. Its specialities include modern and contemporary art, old masters, jewelry and watches, antique furniture, books and manuscripts, and Russian art, where its sales are the largest of their kind in Switzerland. In September 2024 a Hans Hartung painting sold there for CHF 1.2 million, the highlight of a CHF 6.2 million modern and contemporary art sale.
Piguet also runs prestige in situ house sales throughout Switzerland.
Selling through Piguet
A team of more than 30 specialists and outside consultants advises sellers on the best route for their items. Experts travel across Switzerland to see objects in person, and the house holds free valuation days.
Its inventory department appraises property with no obligation to sell. It prepares illustrated, priced lists for insurance revaluations, estates and moves, and helps heirs with practical solutions when settling an estate.
