Soler y Llach is a Barcelona auction house that specialises in collectors' material: stamps and postal history, coins and banknotes, antiquarian books, manuscripts, maps, prints, posters, film programmes, postcards and photographs. It is based at Calle Beethoven 13 in Barcelona and also has a Madrid office. Since 2018 it has been part of the Bolaffi Auction Group, headquartered at Aste Bolaffi in Turin.

History

The firm was created by two collecting families. Filatelia Llach was founded by Eugeni Llach in Havana at the end of 1915, and Filatelia Soler was founded in Barcelona in 1975 by the brothers Josep and Ramón Soler. In 1989 the Soler brothers and Mauricio Sisó also set up Áureo, a coin auction firm.

Soler y Llach itself was founded in Barcelona in October 1989, first as a stamp auction house. It opened a department for antiquarian books, manuscripts, prints and maps in 1995. It held what it describes as Spain's first dedicated poster auction in February 2001, its first film-programme sale in June 2003 and its first photography sale in March 2006.

Coin auctions were added in 2008 with Martí Hervera, a numismatic specialist active since 1976. The house has since sold major coin collections, including the SCIPIO and PLVS VLTRA collections in October 2021.

Sale frequency

Each department holds its own sales through the year. The autumn 2026 calendar, for example, included philately auctions in September and October, an antiquarian books sale in late October and a numismatics sale over three days in November. Some sales are online only, while others take place both in the saleroom and online.

Selling at Soler y Llach

Valuations are free and confidential. Owners can send photographs by email, through the website or by WhatsApp to separate lines for coins, stamps and books. The house also holds valuation days in Madrid. It offers to buy material outright or to agree a starting price for auction, and it catalogues and photographs each lot. Sellers are paid 45 days after the auction, net of the house's commission.

Buying and bidding

A 22% commission is added to the hammer price, made up of auction fees of 18.18% plus 21% VAT on those fees, with shipping and insurance charged on top. Bidding options are online after a one-time registration, in person, by email, by telephone, or with a written order form. Unsold lots can be bought at their starting price plus commission from 24 hours after the sale.

Auctions are open to the public unless a sale is marked as online only, and lots can be examined at the Barcelona offices during the viewing days. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, cheque, credit or debit card, or cash up to €1,000. Once payment is confirmed, lots are shipped or can be collected from the offices.
